WITCHTOBER in New Orleans Halloween HORROR MOVIES
Nola Movie Guide is getting into the spirit this Halloween by celebrating WITCHTOBER all month long!
The folks at RPLLC have several scary specials this month on a variety of horror anthology films just right for the spooky season.
Horror Anthology Movie Vol. 1 is an epic anthology clocking in at 117 minutes and featuring six original tales of horror ranging from science fiction to the supernatural. It stars Ben Matheny who appears in the H.P. Lovecraft inspired short “Footage Found, Arabi.” Matheny is a New Orleans based actor who has had roles in American Horror Story, Scream Queens, and a variety of feature films. Most of the segments were shot in and around New Orleans, the Gulf Coast, and even one story was made in New York!
Horror Anthology Movie Vol. 2 brings both classic and modern horror stories to life with four tales based upon stories by Edgar Allan Poe, Joe R. Lansdale, Edgar Allan Poe, Jeff Strand, and Lafcadio Hearn who apart from being a great writer, was also a famous chef in New Orleans. Catherine Ashton stars in the segment called “Of a Promise Broken” that was shot in the Nola French Quarter. She was the child star in the 1992 film starring Julian Sands called “Tale of a Vampire,” apparently based upon the story “Annabel Lee” by Poe.
Witch Tales (2020) is the latest indie feature horror film from Mike Lyddon and RPLLC. After making several feature films in and around New Orleans for many years, Mike moved to Peru and filmed Witch Tales over a one year period. The plot revolves around a sexy and beguiling witch who introduces the horror stories while concocting a very special Halloween potion. The stories are based upon classic EC style pre-code horror comic book stories in the vein of Tales from the Crypt. The film stars Mayella Lloclla as The Witch. Mayella is a noted Peruvian TV and Film actress who has appeared in many films and TV series. Witch Tales is also the first anthology film ever produced in two languages: English and Spanish, both of which are on the limited edition signed blu-ray.

From Los Angeles to New Orleans to Lima – Mike Lyddon talks Indie Filmmaking
In the latest interview from the Swedish genre site MONSTERDIGGARE, filmmaker Mike T. Lyddon goes back in time to recount tales of filmmaking and inspiration from Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Lima, Peru.
“My early influences included Harlan Ellison, Charles Beaumont, Rod Serling, Roger Corman, Forrest J Ackerman, and of course the late great Don Dohler.”
On filming First Man on Mars in Louisiana and Mississippi –
“I wrote the original First Man on Mars story while there was a lot of excitement about NASA sending people to Mars. So I thought it would be timely to make a film about Mars, but of course, make it a horror-comedy about a billionaire astronaut who funds his own expedition to Mars…”
On DIY filmmaking –
“You MUST rehearse the script with your cast prior to getting on the set to shoot the film. You MUST block out any needed action as well as you can before you get on the set. You would be surprised at how many low budget films do not do these things, and they suffer for it.”
